Is God Almighty??? part 1
What were two old men arguing about in the tea shop next to our house? When I went closer and listened carefully, I understood that they were arguing about God. An old man says that God is almighty and can do anything. Another old man says that there's no way it's possible, surely there is a limit to his power, and if there isn't why isn't he just removing all the bad guys from the world. This is how their logical and illogical arguments went. As I stood there for a while and listened to them, the question arose in my mind, if there really is such a thing as God, is that God omnipotent as claimed in the scriptures?
After doing a little research on the internet, I came across the “Almighty Paradox”, which I thought would help us with this discussion. But before we start we have to assume for the sake of this article that God really exists (for those who don't believe in God). But before understanding the paradox, one should know what 'paradox' really is.
Paradox (Paradox) or Kutavas in Bengali meaning is in one word an inconsistency. Paradoxes are usually those sentences or sayings from which no conclusion can be drawn. Contradicting itself with its own statement, this is the paradox. An example will make it easier to understand -
Let me write you the following two sentences –
1. The following line is true.
2. The above line is false.
Now say which line above is true? If the first sentence is true, the second sentence is false; If the second sentence is true then the first sentence is false. Although it seems simple at first sight, it is actually like an endless cycle. If you think a little hard in your head, you will see that the hair on your head will be torn out. Many compare paradoxes to riddles, but I don't think it's exactly a riddle.
Hopefully, I have been able to explain what paradox is, now let's get back to our main discussion of the almighty paradox.
We are used to hearing from all the scriptures and even from people that God exists and that He is omnipotent, He can do everything. Well if this is true then can God create such a heavy stone that he is unable to lift himself? Think for yourself…
This is the Ishwar Paradox or the God Paradox or the Almighty Paradox. Consider if God can create a stone so heavy that he cannot lift it himself, then find a work that God cannot do.
And if he is unable to make such a stone, then we simply find another work that God cannot do.
If even one of the above statements is true then it can be said that God is not omnipotent.
In logic, to solve a complex problem, it is broken down into smaller parts, let's try that too –
The central question of the almighty paradox is – if God can do everything, can he create a stone so heavy that he himself is unable to lift it?
If we express the question in one sentence, it would be something like this – God can do everything, that is, He can create a heavy stone that He Himself is unable to lift.
If we divide the sentence into several clauses –
1. God can do everything.
2. God can lift everything. (because 1st sentence)
3. God can create a heavy stone that He is unable to lift. (because 1st sentence)
4. God cannot lift the stone he made. (Because he created a heavy stone that he was unable to lift)
